Living in a city where the sun shines only a few months out of the year, we're prone to isolation, self-reflection, and a craving for places where people living under blue skies have more important things to do than drink lattes, read, and stare longingly at their computer screens. During those few months when the sun makes its cameo appearance, it can be difficult to choose from a slew of simultaneous outdoor events. My suggestion: Treat your Cloud-Cover Syndrome accordingly. Daydreaming about other realms? Visit foreign countries by attending one many multicultural events like TibetFest, BrazilFest, or the Bon Odori Japanese Festival. Or head outta town to the Kitsap County Fair and Rodeo or the Northwest Garlic Festival. Widen your mind at Gay Pride or the Edmonds Arts Festival. Isolated? Join the masses at Bite of Seattle and Bumbershoot. Even if you're one of those looking forward to October's drizzle, there's no escaping the fun: The Seafair jets promise to rattle your office windows at least once, and, if you live in Fremont, the Solstice Parade just might put a smile on your face as a naked bicyclist streaks past.—D.M.
