ON THE PLATE Palisade Executive chef John Howie offers a culinary tour of the Waters of the World in a special menu featuring 30 varieties of fresh seafood, including green-lip mussels with Thai curry ($11), Chilean scallops roasted on the half-shell ($24), Australian crayfish in lobster cream ($36), and smoked Columbia River sturgeon with Russian caviar ($28). Ackka Bell A new full-service Japanese restaurant in the heart of Bellevue offers a broad array of lunch and dinner specials, including deep-fried scallops and onions vinaigrette ($5.50), grilled New York steak with two sauces (tangy and sesame, $21), orange-marinated broiled duck ($21), a nine-course prix fixe dinner ($70), and a 30-item sushi menu. 302 108th N.E. IN THE GLASS '00 Golddigger chardonnay The first release from a brand-new vintner in Washington's newest wine region, the Okanogan, is attracting favorable notice from connoisseurs. About $16 at specialty wineshops; a '00 pinot noir will be released early in November. Ebenezer Ale Guaranteed to put a benign smile of the face of Scrooge himself, Bridgeport Brewing's seasonal amber bitter is available on tap and in specialty stores through the holidays. About $7 a six-pack. AT THE MARKET The fresh produce season is winding down, but winter crucifers (cabbage, kale, chard, et al.) are in their glory, and squash of all kinds abound. Get to know new varieties—turban, kabocha, delicata—and try sugar-pumpkin for your holiday tart. And may we remind you that the state fruit of Washington is the apple? How long has it been since you whipped up an apple pie? Shame on you!
