Destitution got you down? You're not alone! In fact, your favorite flashy restaurant may be poorer than you are. In the month of March, 25 of our city's top fancy places (such as Caf頃ampagne, Flying Fish, and Earth & Ocean) are offering three-course prix fixe lunches and dinners Sundays through Thursdays at a staggering savings: $12.50 and $25, respectively. Actually, the "25 for $25" promotion may have little to do with our massive slumping souffl頯f an economy. According to restaurateur Richard Malia of Ponti Seafood Grill, who's spearheading the March promotion, the collaboration is based on a very successful program in New York City called "Summer Restaurant Week," now in its 10th year. Says Malia, "I have been intrigued by this program in New York for years. It has been well received and very successful [there]. . . . We have a bevy of world-class restaurants in Seattle and a lot of discriminating diners [who] will want to take advantage of this amazing opportunity to eat a fabulous three-course dinner for $25." So what kind of three-course prix fixe dinner does $25 buy you at a place like, say, Sazerac? Soup or salad to start: their great chicken and andouille sausage gumbo or a chickory salad with black-pepper-basted pears and a warm Brie crouton. A choice of three entr饳: rotisserie honey-mustard chicken with scallion whipped potatoes and buttered tasso corn and beans; flash-fried catfish with lemon whipped potatoes and jalapeime meuni貥; or ricotta dumplings with wild mushroom ragout, candied carrots, spinach, and fried sage. And, of course, something sweet: cr譥 caramel or Valhrona chocolate terrine with pistachio anglaise. Pretty damn good deal for 25 bucks.
