Cigarette fan clubs are the rage right now, with new clubs and chapters sprouting like mushrooms on a stump. To keep competitive, established orgs are offering incredible premiums, but it would be tough to top the membership package being dangled by the American Spirit Fan Club, Omaha chapter. For a mere $9.99, you'll receive an American Spirit pin, pennant, hood ornament, note pad, cheese cutter, and cocktail stirrer—whudda steal! Send cash, coin, check, money order, or stamps to: ASFC Membership Deal, 527 W. Chahuney Rd., Dept. M, Omaha, NE 68108. (New members only, please.)
One of my personal favorite clubs, the Micronite Filter Remembrance Society, has announced the upcoming display of 2,752,181 (exact count) mint-condition Micronites, the largest ever assembled. "Bringing so many filters to one place at one time has been no easy task," writes club prez Elvis Costello. "Getting collectors to part with their treasured stashes, however briefly, has been like pulling teeth. But the filter community will be gassed, I'm sure, by the fruits of our effort." All I can add to that is WHOOPEE. The exhibit—an "installation" in current art parlance—is tentatively scheduled for mid-December in the main hall of the Wilkes-Barre Museum of Fine Arts. . . . We'll keep you posted. For membership info, meantime, send SASE to Elvis & Mary June Costello, P.O. Box 1990, Biola, NM 87326. You'll be glad you did!
