Book-It Repertory Theatre hopes to start a new Christmas tradition by letting go of its annual staging of Owen Meany's Christmas Pageant but holding onto, well, Owen Meany. Stephen Hando (pictured center), who indelibly played the diminutive hero of the company's John Irving adaptation for the past six years, is now the titular tot of another holiday talethis world premiere musical version of the nostalgic children's book by Pulitzer Prize-winning Bloom County cartoonist Berkeley Breathed. When people think of Spanish classical music, it's probably the brightly rhythmic, folk-flavored works of the 19th and 20th century that first comes to mind. But their musical heritage dates back centuriesespecially in the genre of Christmas music, so vital in this Catholic culture: from medieval cantigas to Renaissance polyphony (Tomas Luis de Victoria was one of the greatest Renaissance composers) to the baroque music that flourished in New World missions.
