Pumpkin Flan and Atkins Pies: Thanksgiving Alternatives

Not feeling the urge to yank out turkey gizzards, burn your tongue on scorching-hot apple pie, or hazard Aunt Mildred's unidentifiable bluish stuffing? Here are a few alternatives to keep in mind if you're looking for a Thanksgiving that lets you breathe a little easier—and enjoy yourself a lot more. You've chosen the plumpest turkey available. But what about everything else? DOWNTOWN Nov. 25 Kaspar's Restaurant is hosting one super-fancy Thanksgiving jamboree this year. The festive buffet ($40/adult, $15/child 7 to 15) includes everything from rosemary-rubbed turkey to honey-rum smoked salmon and cilantro-jalapeño cornbread. 1–7 p.m. 19 W. Harrison St., 206-298-0123. DOWNTOWN Earth & Ocean is serving up a three-course contemporary Thanksgiving meal this year. What makes it "contemporary"? Shellfish appetizers and entrée choices like braised rabbit casserole and butter-poached lobster, that's what. Also: a "doughnut jubilee" dessert made of hot buttermilk doughnuts filled with cardamom-chocolate truffle and served with pumpkin flan.
