At the top of tony Pacific Place lies a surprise bargain: Thai Ginger has early and late happy hours, 3 to 6 and 9 to close. A carved wooden archway invites tired shoppers to enjoy the open kitchen and mellow ambiance. Nine stellar appetizers are priced $4 to $5. Order the Meing Kahm ($5) and roll your own: an enormous, attractive selection of fillings including toasted coconut, fresh ginger root, and dry shrimp arrives ready to be assembled in cha-plu leaves. It's a hands-on experience that's fun to share. Another winner is the festive angel prawns ($5) fried in egg noodles with a sweet chili sauce. Cocktails like a cool, refreshing, hand-pressed cucumber margarita are killer—and $5. Where else can you try the Ultimate Thai Cocktail, coconut rum with cilantro, fresh juice, and a bit of yellow curry? And for the true Seattleite, there's the Royal Bangkok Coffee Martini, where crushed cardamom meets spiced rum, Amarula, and iced Thai coffee—yum!
