NEWS Rising Out of the Shadows (ROOTS) served its 500th consecutive Friday Feast at University Temple United Methodist Church on Oct. 21. Friday Feast provides quality food to more than 150 homeless and low-income guests weekly, and sends another 100 meals to Tent City 3. Founder Sinan Demirel says that in the program's nine-and-a-half-year history, it's never missed a meal thanks to dedicated volunteers and donors. The meals are from 6 to 7 p.m. weekly, and the church is located in the U District at 1415 N.E. 43rd St., 206-979-5621. The Electric Boat Company on South Lake Union will promote fine Pacific Northwest wines with wine tasting cruises weekly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. ON THE PLATE Saturday, Oct. 29 The Sixth Annual Washington Cask Beer Festival comes to Fisher Pavilion at Seattle Center on Oct. 29, and this year it's even bigger. The festival will feature the beer of more than 30 Washington breweries, in addition to other breweries from neighboring states. Herbert's Cask Festival Beer (specially brewed collectively by Washington Brewers Guild members) will be served, as will pub food from Fred's Rivertown Alehouse.
