Frequented by Roosevelt regulars, the Atlantic Crossing offers laid back, scene-free happy hours (3–6 p.m. and10 p.m.–1 a.m. daily). The absence of pretension attracts a friendly crowd that ranges from middle-aged couples to college kids, office cliques to confirmed bachelors. Obligatory English pub decor and a jukebox with every classic album from the last 30 years give character to the tidy and sizable spot. Although the outdoor courtyard in back is tempting, sitting at the bar is recommended in order to chat with affable (and cute) London transplant Gareth Etchells, the two-year-old bar's owner. At a recent early happy hour, the cream-cheese stuffed jalapeños ($4) and chipotle chicken wings ($6) were our favorite appetizers, providing unusually tasty flavors and just the right amount of grease to complement our $1-off well drinks and pints. (The full bar has 15 beers on tap, including Boddingtons, Stella, and Bass). All day on Wednesdays, Pabst Blue Ribbon is $1.50, and kamikaze and cosmo shots are $2.50. If you play your cards right, you might even get a chilled and irresistibly smooth Cheesecake shot from Etchells for a good deal. Sip it; don't slam it. KATIE BECKER
