News Coffee Fest, a retail trade show for the coffee industry, comes to Seattle this weekend (Oct. 27–29), featuring a latte art competition and classes for both baristas and cafe owners: Essentials of Water—What the New Cafe Owner Needs to Know, and Hands-On Free Pour Latte Art Workshop. Seattle barista Reid Hickman is the two-time defending champ and will compete in the Latte Art Championship. $20. Washington State Convention & Trade Center, 800 Convention Pl., The 19th Avenue–based Fuel Coffee Shop is launching another outpost, this one in the Montlake area (across from the new library) at ADDRESS TK. Stop in for Vita coffee and well-designed merch—onesies, hats, and the like. Just as new restaurants are launching all over town (a recent spotting: Nando's Chicken & BBQ Grill at Second and Yesler) a few spots must close: Thumper's Restaurant & Bar (Capitol Hill), Ristorante Il Bacio (Redmond), and Calypso Caribbean Kitchen (Roosevelt). E-mail Farm Fresh This week's crop of fresh, local produce includes raspberries (yes, still), heirloom lettuces including Jericho, Esmerelda, Freckles, and Black Seeded Simpson varieties, and green-fleshed Ogen melons. SODO Sunday, October 29 A four part wine-tasting series, Wine and Business: The New Golf, tees off with an intro session explaining just how a bit more wine knowledge might be good for your career.
