At a recent communal reading of ancient diary entries, my favorite was a womans story (written at 13) of that fateful day when Duran Durans Simon Le Bon proposed marriage. While she put her obsession on paper years ago and brought it out for a few laughs, a local man named Andrew GolubDurandy, to youhas become known for his 20-plus years of fanaticism and his incredible collection of Duran Duran memorabilia. A Bellevue storage unit houses his thousands of posters, articles, books, buttons, and rare promotional swag even the band (who hes met) doesnt have. Part of Golubs stash was last shown at Art/Not Terminal Gallery six years ago, and today opens his Some New Romantics: A Duran Duran Retrospective. Sneak by for a preview before the opening party on Dec. 1, which will be soundtracked by the cheeky new Duran Duran album, Red Carpet Massacre. Along with a vast collection of posters from the Durandy Collection, Romantics includes prints by Paul Edmond, the bands first photographer. Itll make memories Durandy promises to be anything but careless. Show ends Jan. 6.
