If you cant beat em, join em. Humans can have trouble adjusting to the darker, wetter conditions of a Northwest winter each year, but a trip to the aquarium can inspire with thoughts of primal resilience and successful adaptation. After all, marine creatures spend plenty of time in the dark, and some of themlike the beluga whale at the Vancouver aquarium that once spit on meappear to be smiling. The first Sunday of each month is Family Day at ours, and todays focus is on the aquariums beautiful drifters, jellyfish. While the kids get crafty, you can chill and admire the invertebrates grace at maneuvering their environment. (And make a note that Dec. 28-Jan. 6 is the Winter Break Fantastic Fishtival, where a new animal, including orcas, otters, seals, and sharks, is highlighted each day).
