Martin Luther King Day at Seattle Center

Let freedom ring: an all-star observance

There’s something that sets this Martin Luther King Day apart from previous ones: for the first time, we have an African-American presidential candidate who stands as good a chance as anyone else at winning. So it’s fitting that this year’s ceremonies at Seattle Center are heavy on the music and dance and light on the historical solemnity. Performers at the all-day event include Elisha Meyers, Michelle Lang and Stillwater, The Darrius Willrich Band, and any number of hip-hop dance teams. Center House, Seattle Center, Free. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. GAVIN BORCHERT

Mon., Jan. 21, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., 2008
