A visual story of unrequited love (or lust) between two fancy-shirted cowboys: thats Isaac Juliens The Long Road to Mazatlan (screened in Seattle once before in 2004s Only Skin Deep photography exhibit at SAM). A digital, paint-blurred, almost cartoonish short of what appears to be a gorilla, caught and retold in a mess of color: Takeshi Muratas Monster Movie. And a trope on how to jump off a bridge: a summer tale, looped over and over again. All that falling gets beautiful, if you watch long enough: the reluctant bravery it takes to jump off the bridge, and (shown in quick succession) all of those young bodies. And the one girl pulled in, her legs careening in the empty air. This last one is Dara Friedmans Government Cut Freestyle, depicting kids jumping off a pier in Miami.
