Berkshire Grill Closing This Thursday

I've been enjoying prime rib with a large, frozen mug of Stella Artois at Northgate Way's Berkshire Grill every first Thursday of the month for the last year-and-a-half, with Joel Connelly and a group of independent television producers whose company I enjoy immensely. Now it looks like we'll have to find a new northside gathering place for late dinner, as I've got it on good authority that the Berkshire will be closing this Thursday (it'll eventually reopen as an Indian restaurant). I wonder if I can coax my comrades instead to the like-minded and not-too-far-away Wedgwood Broiler. Let's hope so—and let's raise a mug to the Berkshire's retirement in the meantime.

Silver City Adds Another Award-Winning Brewer

Duh, two. Tom Munoz, formerly of Far West Brewing and STIX Brewpub, has joined the staff of Silver City Brewery in Silverdale, WA.

Silver City head brewer Don Spencer and Munoz have been friends for a long time, but the decision came unexpectedly. "It was like picking up a veteran player off of waivers," says Spencer. "I think our talents compliment each other very well."

What does this mean for us? For one, expect a steadier stream of Silver City beer to be pouring into Seattle. You can also expect the team to do a little more experimenting, including that which begins with a capital "B," as in Belgian. Spencer explains, "We have a saying at Silver City that 'no ONE of us is as smart as ALL of us.'"

Yeah, but the two of these guys? They're gonna be dangerous, and that is very good for the rest of us.

Veraci Pizza Moving to Non-Mobile Spot in Ballard

If you're a regular Ballard farmers market shopper, no doubt you've tasted the wares emerging from Veraci Pizza's mobile, wood-fired, 1,000-degree oven. Their dome-shaped clay oven is certainly a sight, parked on the patch of grass adjacent to Ballard Ave. Whether you select a simple (yet enormous) slice of pepperoni, or a piece topped with roasted veggies, pesto and olives, this thin-crust, Neapolitan-style pizza is good eating. But sometimes you just want to sit with your slice before it spills its contents. And a beer would be nice, too.

Well, this family-run catering company is ready to settle down, and offer, in addition to great pizza, chairs, a roof, and eventually some local beer to go with it all. But they've got a lot of work to do, as they've just got the lease signed (not even two weeks ago) and they have to build the oven.

Veraci is moving into a space that used to be a Domino's, and which was more recently occupied by another pizza joint, Paradise Pizza. It seems this location (at 500 N.W. Market St.) is going through a pizza upgrade. Veraci Pizza plans to open in July. But until then, check out their calendar, to find out where to locate these purveyors of a great slice. They'll even come to you.
