ART revolves around an expensive contemporary painting that is entirely white— the kind of painting that will lead to some pretty strong opinions about exactly what constitutes art, and if it’s ever worth that much money. But while the vague white canvas is the center of the action, the play ultimately has less to do with art, more with honesty and friendship. Kudos to the actors who do Yasmina Reza’s Tony winner (in Christopher Hampton’s English translation) justice; David Kubiczky’s portrayal of Yvan, the neurotic, indecisive fiancé, is probably worth a Tony in and of itself. How nice it is to find this gem in a hole in the wall in Capitol Hill. NANCY SMITH 8 p.m. Thurs.-Sat. plus 2 p.m. Sun., Sept. 28. Ends Sept. 28.
