Jahnavi Lisa Barnes: Simplistic Form

The full archive of Ansel Adams’ images is located at the University of Arizona. It’s fitting then that local landscape shooter Jahnavi Lisa Barnes is a graduate of that school. Because as one can see from her “Simplistic Form” exhibition (on view through Nov. 15), her photography reaches the technical precision of Adams’ work. Her shots will leave the viewer stunned by their beauty—and baffled as to how they were done. Take for example Visual Thunder, in which she captured lightning illuminating a landscape in a scene of extraordinary power. In fact, one could say her photographs are even more special than Adams’ huge output. While his shots are now plastered on at least one postcard or calendar in every household in America, Barnes’ stunners are a well-kept secret. For now.
