Danny Boyle’s propulsively hyperbolic adaptation of the Irvine Welsh novel made a star out of Ewan McGregor, and the rest of the rogues’ gallery haven’t done too poorly—including Robert Carlyle, Ewen Bremner, and Kelly Macdonald. Thirteen years later, it’s hard to say if this Scottish junkie film was only a hyped-up ’90s sensation or something genuinely influential and lasting; either way, it’s definitely worth seeing again.
