A lot of blogs right now are buzzing about the forthcoming record, FIELDS, that Swedish songwriter Jose Gonzalez is releasing with his new band, Junip. Junip isn’t a new band though – Gonzalez formed the trio with drummer Elias Araya and organist Tobias Winterkorn in the late 90s, but the project got shelved once he made it big as a solo artist with his stunning cover of the Knife’s “Heartbeats.” Now Junip is back in the picture, and a decade later, FIELDS will be the band’s first full-length. The new songs have all the right Gonzalez hallmarks – shadowy synths and percussions backing his classical nylon-string guitar and his remarkably tender and lucid vocals. ERIN K. THOMPSON
