Rainbow Fletcher

Rainbow Fletcher usually works on the stage of the Can Can, where you can get from one side to the other in four or five giant steps. Her choreography there is full of small details--hips shifting, shoulders rolling, and knees twitching--but not much in the big leap department. So for her new work with Coriolis Dance, she and Ezra Dickinson, her collaborator in the Offshore Project, are taking advantage of the square footage in a pair of works that keep the same elaborate gestural language, but layer it on top of some intricate traffic patterns. A quartet for women with heels and a mid-century modern attitude feels sleek and smart, but a larger group piece, based on the film Synecdoche, New York, mixes emotion and abstraction, as characters seem to trade places with each other, like a shift change in a factory job.
