Erotic Bakery to Close, Tilth’s Eighth Anniversary Celebration, and More Food News

Your Daily Dose of Food News, Events and Must-Read Miscellany

1. You’ve got til the end of September to buy penis cakes at Wallingford’s Erotic Bakery; they’ll shutter for good on September 30, reports Eater Seattle.

2. Tilth is celebrating its eight anniversary with a special family-style BBQ menu featuring four courses for $50. The menu will be available all day, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on September 1. Courses include pulled pork sliders and coffee-rubbed Wagyu beef brisket. Reservations are encouraged and can be made online or by calling 206-633-0801.

3. The Fairmont Olympic has launched a happy hour at the hotel’s Terrace Lounge. The menu includes signature martinis, Pacific Northwest wines by the glass, and local bottled beers. Appetizers like duck fries with chorizo aioli, mini Kobe hotdogs, and smoked salmon bites round out the food portion of the menu. Next week, the Terrace Lounge will launch a “build your own boozy milkshakes” option with homemade ice cream flavors.

4. The recently uncovered phenomenon of seafood fraud – “the substitution of a lesser-valued fish for a more expensive one,” has led one researcher to look into whether diners were subsequently being exposed to high levels of mercury. Using samples of Chilean sea bass, the researcher “found that nearly a quarter of fish given the stamp of approval from the Marine Stewardship Council, a leading authority on seafood sustainability, did not originate from their designated fisheries, but rather from unknown areas where mercury contamination is more likely.” Yikes.
