Poquitos Throws a Day of the Dead Party, Madrona Scores Big, and More Food News

1. Margaritas and mascara abound at the annual Poquitos Day of the Dead party this Saturday. Things get going at 7:00 pm, when the Capitol Hill Mexican eatery brings in makeup artist Lars Laduke. He’ll be applying sugar skull-inspired makeup for willing guests. In addition to the regular menu, you can sample free sugar skull sweets in the dressed-up covered patio.

2. Guess who’s opening a new spot in Madrona in the space most recently occupied by Restaurant Bea? Ethan Stowell. The restaurant, Red Cow, will be similar to a French bistro and feature steak frites. It will also include Noyer, a tiny separate fine dining spot in the back, that he tells Seattle Weekly will be similar in style to his first (and former) restaurant, Union, in that it will be a bit fancier, and will feature a daily changing menu.

3. Remember those mayoral candidate butter busts? The jury is still out on whether McGinn or Murray look more mayor-ish when carved out of a dairy product; you can vote for your bust of choice through November 1 on Darigold’s Facebook page.

4. Architects Without Borders hosts its seventh annual Carve for a Cause event tomorrow from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Copperworks Distilling. Expect eats, drinks and a judged pumpkin carving contest/auction. Admission is free.

5. Seattle Chocolate Company celebrates its anniversary on Thursday, November 14 with an in-store party. In addition to complimentary wine and drinking chocolate, guests score 25 percent off select retail chocolate. The first 100 customers who make a purchase take home a free gift.
