Halloween at The Barrel Thief, a New Ballard Pop-Up, and More Food News

1. Fremont wine and whiskey bar The Barrel Thief hosts a Halloween party this Thursday. Live music, a costume contest and food and booze specials are planned, including a little something called “Underworld Punch.” No RSVP is needed and admission for the 7:00 pm to midnight event is free.

2. Ready to skip Halloween and get right to November? Greater Seattle-area Whole Foods Markets host a Taste of Thanksgiving next Thursday, November 7 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Sample turkey, organic sides and sweets that form a holiday meal that’s likely better than what you can make at home...but will probably cost your whole paycheck to serve. If you have extra to spare, proceeds from the $5 suggested donation go to FareStart.

3. Greg Ehrlich, who plays in the Allen Stone band and is known as a wonderful cook, is opening a pop-up restaurant called Whim! He debuts it on Tuesday, November 12th at Bloom restaurant in Ballard with a multiple-course tasting menu that emphasizies Pacific Northwest ingredients. Erlich has partnered with Dan Phan (Le Pichet, Joule, Chiso) in the kitchen. A Northwest beer and wine pairing will be available too. Tickets go on sale today. To buy them, click here.

4.Renowned Indian cookbook author and actor Madhur Jaffrey comes to Town Hall next month. Tickets for the November 19 Seattle Arts & Lectures talk are on sale now.

5. Paper plates + plastic gloves = the best service ever? The folks at this Burmese-Yunnanese-Malaysian-Thai spot in Queens might be on to something.
