1. If you’re more of a dessert eater than baker, it might be time to pre-order your Thanksgiving pie. A la Mode in Phinney Ridge delivers Turkey Day pumpkin pies with gingersnap crust and organic apple and ginger pear pies anywhere in the Seattle metro area until November 26. Cost is $27, pre-order online no later than November 25. Volunteer Park Cafe in Capitol Hill is filling organic apple, pumpkin and chocolate pecan pie orders through November 21 for $32. Call or stop in to order, then pick up pies in-store the day before Thanksgiving.
2. Speaking of Thanksgiving sweets, poet and baker Kate Lebo says folks who prefer pumpkin pie tend to be, “adventurous, quizzical, good in bed and voluminously communicative.” Read more about the “A Commonplace Book of Pie” author and her pie-personality connections in our feature.
3. This Sunday, more than a dozen chefs from eateries including Lola, Sky City and Local 360 are gathering to cook a whole lot of lamb. You’re invited to eat it, drink wine and beer, and watch a hands-on butchery demo. Lamb Jam at SoDo’s Foundry by Herban Feast is happening from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Tickets here.
4. America’s Test Kitchen’s Christopher Kimball will be at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park next Thursday, November 7. He’ll sign copies of the new 800+ page “America’s Test Kitchen Cooking School Cookbook,” which covers everything from scrambling eggs to baking layer cake. The event starts at 7:00 pm.
