Thank goodness the Second Amendment guarantees us the right to keep and bear arms. Otherwise, a basement apartment below a man Seattle police describe as "intoxicated" and "elderly" may have never gotten what it had coming to it early Sunday morning.
Yes, according to Seattle police shortly after 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning SWAT Team officers and hostage negotiators were called to the 8900 block of 31st Av NW after receiving a call of shots fired. Once on the scene, police say they were setting up a containment area and arrest teams when they heard two shots from the home -- shots that investigators would soon attribute to an old drunk guy with a lot of guns.
According to police:
Hostage Negotiators eventually made telephone contact with the subject who voluntarily left the home. He was taken into custody without incident.
The handgun was found inside the home and two fresh bullet holes were found in the basement apartment. A handgun and six rifles were taken into custody for safe-keeping. The male subject was taken to the hospital on 72 hour Involuntary Commitment.
The good news in all this: Police say no injuries were reported.
