Bol Opens in Roosevelt, Percy’s Launches on Ballard Ave.,and More Food News

1. Bol Pho Bistro quietly opened last month in a space off the beaten path at 916 NE 64th St. near the Roosevelt Whole Foods. The pocket-sized eatery features that tried-and-true minimal aesthetic, with Tolix-style chairs, exposed brick and a wood-centric interior that looks more like a brew pub than a noodle joint. But the menu confirms otherwise, with bowls of pho starring duck sourced from Maple Leaf Farm and bahn mi stuffed with Painted Hills flank steak. Hours are 11:30 am to 9:30 pm daily. I couldn’t find a Bol website or Facebook page, but you can check out the restaurant’s Yelp page.

2. Percy’s and Co. opened this week at 5233 Ballard Ave. NW. That’s the same space that housed the Old Town Ale House for 17 years, but you wouldn’t know it from the totally redone interior. The “apothecary-style bar” is serving the likes of potted pork rillettes and salted cod fritters, with a drink list featuring house-infused liquor, including gimlets made with cilantro-steeped gin. To make matters better, you can add a tincture to your cocktail for free. Current hours are 4:00 pm to 2:00 am seven days a week.

3. The owner of organically certified local eateries Tilth, Golden Beetle and Agrodolce, chef Maria Hines is hosting a happy hour to spread the word about 1-522, the initiative to label genetically modified foods. Hines will discuss why she’s behind the ballot, and campaign reps will be on hand to answer questions. The Wednesday, August 28 event lasts from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Click here for details.

4. Speaking of Maria Hines: In honor of National Waffle Day this Saturday, Fremont’s Agrodolce is serving brandy maple semolina waffles for half price. The $6 waffles will be available during the brunch rush from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm.
