Washington will soon lose the distinction of having the highest minimum wage in the nation. California intends to see our $9.19 an hour and raise us 81 cents.
Gov. Jerry Brown -- the man who used to date Linda Ronstadt and once earned the memorable sobriquet, Governor Moonbeam, during this first term as governor way, way back in 1975 -- said he has strong support on both sides of the aisle in Sacramento (it helps that there are few GOP lawmakers in the Golden State), all but guaranteeing passage of a ten-buck minimum wage before the legislative deadline on Friday.
“The minimum wage has not kept pace with rising costs,” Brown, who at 75 is the oldest governor in America, said in a statement. “This legislation is overdue and will help families that are struggling in this harsh economy.”
