Hey! Did you hear the one about the big summer festival at the Gorge where a bunch of hippies are getting together to have a party? It was a fantastic show in 2002 when it was called Sasquatch! -- String Cheese Incident, Jack Johnson, Galactic, etc. -- and every year since, as the fest has become an indie-rock mainstay, I've been hoping that the LiveNation/House of Zacks brass would steer their festival a little closer toward the intersection of hipster and hippie. OK, so, I'm half getting my wish this year.
The inaugural JamBase Live Festival IS Saquatch! Vol. 1, but with more Robert Plant (fuck yeah!), less Ben Harper (thank you!), and an appearance from Slightly Stoopid (why does this band exist?!?!?!?!). Other friends on the bill include Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Roberta y Gabriela, Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers, and Michael Franti and Spearhead. It all goes down at the Gorge on July 5 and 6. Tickets are $75 for two days (no single-day tickets) but early birds pay only $60; camping is $50 in advance/$65 day of.
