If any of y’all are still a bit rattled after yesterday’s bus craziness, here’s news that might help to restore your faith in humanity. Slim Dunlap, former guitarist for the Replacements and beloved friend and musician, suffered a massive stroke last year and that will likely require “around-the-clock care for the rest of his life.” To help out with his medical bills, folks like Scott McCaughey, Patterson Hood, Frank Black, and Steve Earle are covering his songs in a series of limited edition 45s that are put up for auction on the 15th of each month. Replacements drummer Chris Mars contributes the cover art, and according to the website, once the auctions are over, “the songs are released digitally, and at the end of the year, we’ll be putting out a compilation CD of all the songs in the series plus some bonus tracks.” You can get more information here, but meantime we hope this silver lining serves as a reminder that there’s always something you can do to help others.
Speaking of others, Chris Cornell will join the ranks of grunge rockers like Eddie Vedder to play Benaroya Hall. The Soundgarden frontman’s October 20th date there will be one of the first on his North American acoustic tour, and wickedly sharp songwriter Bhi Bhiman will open the bill. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. and you can get them here.
