The speculation can end. Former King County Exec and rumored mayoral candidate Ron Sims told KUOW this morning that he will not be running for mayor. The announcement comes after a Survey USA poll last week showed Sims in a first-place tie with incumbent Mike McGinn among 647 registered voters asked who they'd support in the 2013 mayoral race.
According to Twitter accounts of the KUOW interview, Sims said, "There are other mountains I want to climb."
Interestingly, the Survey USA polled indicated that if Sims stays out of the race - as now appears to be his plan - McGinn would pick up 19 percent of his supporters, while Burgess would get 11 percent, Steinbrueck would get 10 and Ed Murray would pick up 8 percent. It's worth nothing, however, that margin of error on this chunk of the poll was 10.2 percent.
