The colors came out on Sunday as the 40th annual Seattle Pride Parade snaked its way through the heart of the city.

George Takei didn’t disappoint as the parade’s grand marshal, Macklemore made an appearance. Mayor Ed Murray rode triumphant, the first openly gay mayor to take part in the parade. Vows were exchanged, Speedos were sported. And the boys (and girls) in blue marched alongside the kids in all colors to celebrate the diversity of the city, culminating in a mass of humanity at Seattle Center for Pride Fest. It was a far cry from the modest event that started it all 40 years ago, as recounted in this week's cover story. It was, to say the least, a proud moment for Seattle.
